Lake Como is one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in the world, and for good reason: villas with gardens on the water, small churches in the villages and boats that turn every transfer into part of the celebration. But a lake wedding also brings logistics that a city wedding does not have. Guests arrive at different airports, hotels are spread along the shore, roads are narrow and venues often have limited access. Transport is one of the details that decides how relaxed the day feels.
Start with the guest arrivals
Most international guests land at Malpensa, which is about 50 minutes from Como by car in normal traffic, and around an hour and a half from Bellagio or Varenna. Some will come through Linate or Bergamo, and a few may arrive by train. A simple spreadsheet of names, flights and hotels is the starting point for planning arrival transfers. Grouping guests who land at similar times into one vehicle keeps costs reasonable and makes arrivals feel welcoming rather than chaotic.
The wedding day itself
On the day, the typical movements are: guests from hotels to the ceremony, from the ceremony to the reception venue, and back to the hotels late at night. If the ceremony and the dinner are in different places, timing becomes critical, because everyone needs to move at once. A Sprinter Luxury VIP carries up to eight guests with ease; for larger groups, several vehicles running together on a schedule work better than one large coach, which may not fit on the lake roads or at villa gates.
The couple's car
The couple usually wants a dedicated car with a driver who stays with them for the whole day. A Mercedes S-Class is the classic choice. The driver can take care of the bride's arrival at the church, wait during the photographs, take the couple to the reception and be available for the departure at the end of the evening. We plan the route in advance, including where the car can stop near each venue.
Narrow roads and villa access
Many lake villas and churches are reached by roads that are narrow, steep or closed to large vehicles. This is why we plan vehicles venue by venue: sometimes a V-Class or a Sprinter can reach the door, sometimes guests need to be dropped at a nearby point. Your wedding planner and the venue will know the access rules; we coordinate with them before the day.
Combining cars and boats
On Lake Como, boats are part of the experience. Some couples arrive at the reception by boat, and some guests move between hotels and venues by water. Cars and boats work well together: the car takes guests to the right jetty at the right time, and collects them on the other side. Tell us if boats are part of the plan, so the car schedule fits around them.
Late-night returns
Receptions on the lake often finish late. Plan return transfers in waves, for example a first departure around midnight for families and older guests, and a later one for those who stay to dance. Drivers wait at the venue, so guests do not need to call anyone or wait outside in the dark.
The day after
Many weddings include a welcome dinner the night before and a brunch or day trip the day after. These are good moments to use an hourly booking, so the same vehicles and drivers can move guests around the lake as needed. Departures to the airports usually happen over the following one or two days and can be planned in the same way as arrivals.
Working with your planner
Most lake weddings are organised with a professional planner, and we are used to working with them: one schedule, one contact on the day, and drivers briefed on names, venues and times. If you are planning without a planner, we can help you build the transport plan from your guest list. Every element is quoted in writing in advance.
