Landing Late at Night in Milan: Getting to Your Hotel Calmly

The last flights of the day into Milan often land late in the evening, and a delay can easily push an arrival past midnight. At that hour the airport is quieter, the queues are shorter, but the options for getting into the city are fewer. After a long day of travel, the last thing anyone wants is to wait for a taxi or work out the night bus. This guide explains what a late arrival looks like at each Milan airport and how a pre-booked car makes it simple.

What changes late at night

During the day there are several ways to get from the Milan airports into the city: trains, buses, taxis and private cars. Late at night, public transport thins out, and the airport train does not run through the night. Taxi queues can be long when several flights land together, or there may be few taxis waiting. For travellers with luggage, children or simply a long day behind them, a car that is already waiting is the calmest option.

Your driver follows the flight

When you book, we ask for your flight number. From that moment the flight is tracked, so if it leaves late or lands early, the driver's time changes with it. You do not need to call or send a message if the flight is delayed, even by several hours. The driver is in the arrivals hall when you come out, with a sign showing your name.

Waiting time after landing is included: the first 60 minutes at Malpensa and Bergamo, and the first 40 minutes at Linate. Late at night passport control and baggage reclaim are often quicker, but if a bag is missing and you need to file a report, there is time.

Malpensa

Malpensa is about fifty minutes from central Milan in normal traffic, and often faster late at night on empty roads. Most long-haul and many European late arrivals land at Terminal 1; easyJet flights use Terminal 2. Your driver waits at the right terminal. From Malpensa the car can also go directly to Lake Como, Lake Maggiore or another destination without entering the city, which is a good option if you are staying outside Milan.

Linate

Linate is the closest airport to the city, about 8 km from the centre. Late at night the drive to a hotel in the centre takes around twenty minutes. Linate mostly handles domestic and European flights, and its last arrivals land in the late evening.

Bergamo

Bergamo Orio al Serio, east of Milan, receives many late arrivals of low-cost airlines. It is about fifty minutes from central Milan by motorway. For guests heading to Lake Garda, Lake Iseo or the Dolomites, a late arrival at Bergamo can be followed by a direct drive, though for long distances many people prefer to sleep near the airport or in Bergamo and continue the next morning.

Tell your hotel

If you expect to arrive after midnight, let your hotel know in advance. Most hotels in Milan have a 24-hour reception, but some smaller hotels and apartments do not, and need to arrange a late check-in or a key collection. If you are staying in an apartment, tell us the address and any access instructions, and the driver will make sure you get to the door.

Safety and comfort

Late at night, the driver takes the luggage, walks you to the car and drives you to the door of your hotel or residence. If you are travelling alone and would like the driver to wait until you are inside the building, just ask. Water is available in the car on request, and the temperature is set before you get in.

Choosing the vehicle

For one or two people, the Mercedes E-Class or the Mercedes S-Class, where the rear seat is designed for rest after a long flight. Families and small groups travel in the Mercedes V-Class, which seats up to seven with luggage. Larger groups can use the Sprinter Luxury VIP. Fixed prices for each airport are shown on the airport pages, by vehicle.

How to book

Send us the flight number, the date, the number of passengers and suitcases and your hotel or address. We confirm in writing with the fixed price, usually within 30 minutes. If you book shortly before travelling, include your phone number so the driver can reach you on landing.
