Milan to Chamonix, Under Mont Blanc

Eleven kilometres under the mountain

Chamonix is closer than most people expect: about 235 km from Malpensa, almost all of it motorway through the Aosta Valley to Courmayeur, then the Mont Blanc tunnel straight into France. The tunnel is a little over eleven kilometres long and vehicles cross with fixed spacing, so crossing times vary; your driver checks the tunnel status before setting off. On the French side you are in Chamonix within minutes. Climbers with heavy kit, skiers heading for the Grands Montets and families staying a week all fit in the V-Class. We drop at Hôtel Mont-Blanc, Le Hameau Albert 1er, the Grand Hôtel des Alpes or your apartment in Argentière or Les Houches. From central Milan, add about twenty minutes. Lunch in Courmayeur on the Italian side is easy to add as an hourly extension.
