Up the hill, not onto the ferry

Many guests reach Bürgenstock by boat from Lucerne and the funicular from the lake shore: pleasant, but not with five suitcases after a long-haul flight. The road goes all the way. From Malpensa the motorway runs north through the Gotthard road tunnel, then a mountain road climbs from Stansstad to the resort. Allow about three hours, more on summer Saturdays and holiday weekends, when traffic queues at the tunnel. Your driver brings you to the Bürgenstock Hotel, the Waldhotel or the Palace Hotel and hands the luggage to the porters. The S-Class suits two travellers; families and groups of friends take the V-Class, and the Sprinter Luxury VIP carries up to eight with room for golf bags. The return to Milan, or a transfer on to Zurich or St. Moritz, can go on the same booking.
